Vaginal Rejuvenation Q & A

What happens to my vagina as I get older?

Often called vaginal atrophy, changes to the lining of your vagina don’t result from lack of use, such as with muscle atrophy, but rather these tissues react to the reduced amounts of naturally produced estrogen that accompanies menopause and the period leading up to it, which may start as early as your late 30s. Those who undergo induced menopause through hysterectomy or cancer treatment may also lose the ability to produce estrogen.

Your vaginal walls start to thin and dry out without the hormone, and this potentially creates several issues, including vaginal dryness, discomfort or pain during intercourse, feelings of looseness, or urinary issues. One reason behind many of these symptoms is remarkably similar to the changes that occur on your skin.

Below the surface layer of your vagina is a section comprised of collagen and other proteins, just as with skin. Your vaginal problems result in part to the deterioration of tissue in this layer below the surface.

How is vaginal atrophy treated?

Non-surgical solutions focus on mobilizing your body’s regenerative abilities to restore your vagina to a more youthful state. West Valley Med Spa using laser therapy with the MonaLisa Touch® system, as well as the O-Shot®, a system that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to provide the resources your body needs to engage vaginal rejuvenation.

How does MonaLisa Touch work?

The under layers of your vaginal walls have a regenerative healing system that usually remains dormant unless activated by trauma. The MonaLisa touch system uses laser light energy delivered through a wand attachment to warm the tissue in this layer below the surface. When collagen and other proteins reach a temperature a few degrees above normal body temperature, signals are sent to produce new tissue and dispose of current tissue. This process renews and revitalizes your vaginal walls, and symptoms of atrophy subside.

How does the O-Shot work?

The O-Shot is based on the use of human growth factors from your own body, collected and enriched and then injected into your vagina. These growth factors complement and accelerate your body’s natural recuperative systems by providing more raw materials for natural body repair.

As well as addressing the problems of vaginal atrophy, many women who have received O-Shot therapy report that the quality, intensity, and ease of orgasms increased as a result of treatment.
